What PrivateSteps is

PrivateSteps is an Android app that counts steps using your phone's built-in step sensor and shows reports, goals and records. It is free to install, with a 7-day free trial and then a yearly subscription through Google Play. It only records and displays the steps and numbers you give it. It does not diagnose, treat or advise, and nothing in it replaces the advice of your doctor or another qualified professional. Counts are only as accurate as your phone's sensor.

Licence

Installing PrivateSteps, and subscribing to it, gives you a personal, non-transferable licence to use it on Android devices linked to your Google Play account, under Google Play's terms.

Free trial and yearly subscription

PrivateSteps is free to install. When you start the free trial, Google Play asks for a payment method and you pay nothing for 7 days. If you do not cancel before the 7 days end, Google Play charges the yearly price (US$5.00, or the price Google Play shows for your country) and the subscription renews automatically every year, charged at each renewal, until you cancel. You can cancel at any time in Google Play (Payments & subscriptions > Subscriptions); if you cancel during the trial you are not charged, and if you cancel later you keep access until the end of the period you paid for. There is no account. Without an active subscription, step counting continues and no data is deleted; your steps are saved the whole time, and settings and all export, import and erase tools remain available, so your data is never held hostage, but history, charts, goals and records are locked and the count is hidden in the app, the notification and the widget until you subscribe. As a courtesy, the app reminds you on your phone a month before each renewal, a week before, and on the day; reminders are not a guarantee, and you remain responsible for managing your subscription in Google Play.

Refunds

Purchases are made through Google Play, and refunds are handled by Google Play, not by us. Google Play lets you request a self-service refund shortly after purchase from your Order history. For requests after that window, use Google Play's support and refund request process; Google decides those requests under its policy. We can't issue refunds directly.

Your data

Your data stays on your phone. See the privacy policy. You are responsible for any export files you create and where you store them.

No warranty

The app is provided as is. We don't guarantee uninterrupted counting; phone power settings, sensor behaviour and Android updates can affect it. To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for lost data or indirect losses.

Changes

We may update these terms; the new version is posted here with a new effective date.
